How Pay Fixation Operates: Fundamental Rule 22(I)(a)(1) Explained

When a government servant is promoted or granted financial upgradation under the MACP Scheme to a post carrying duties of higher responsibility, pay is fixed under Fundamental Rule 22(I)(a)(1).

Exercising the Option: Date of Promotion vs. Date of Next Increment (DNI)

Government employees have the legal option under FR 22(I)(a)(1) to either:

  • Option A: Have their pay fixed from the exact date of promotion immediately.
  • Option B: Continue drawing pay in the lower level until their annual increment date (1st January or 1st July), receive the normal increment in the lower level, and then have pay fixed in the promoted level.
